Kevlar Scissors & Stripping Pliers

Preparing a fibre takes three moves: open the jacket, cut the aramid (Kevlar) and strip the coating. Ordinary scissors go blunt on aramid within a few cuts — hence a dedicated tool for each step.

The three moves of fibre preparation

Each move has its tool. Mixing them up damages the fibre or the tool — usually both.

1 · Open the jacket

Split the outer jacket without nicking the fibres. Stripping pliers with several calibrated notches set the depth for the operator.

2 · Cut the aramid

Reinforcing Kevlar will not cut with ordinary scissors: it wears them out in a few passes. Scissors with treated serrated blades are made for it.

3 · Strip the coating

Remove the 250 µm acrylate or the 900 µm jacket to expose the bare fibre, without micro-cracks — that is what breaks later in the splicer.

Special case: ribbon fibre

On ribbon you do not scrape: you heat. The thermal stripper softens the coating and removes it in one piece.
